A prayer of comfort and healing

A prayer of comfort and healing

During this sacrament, a priest prays with the person, lays hands on them, and anoints them with blessed oil. It is a moment of deep reassurance, inviting God’s healing, courage, and calm.

Some people experience renewed health; for others, it brings spiritual peace and the sense of being held gently by God in a difficult time.

The baptism ceremony is a beautiful and joyful occasion — a moment to gather with family, friends, and the wider parish community.
The child is anointed with holy oil, blessed with water, and welcomed as a new member of the Church.

  • Parents and godparents make a promise to guide the child in faith.

  • A white garment and candle are given as symbols of new life and light.

You’re welcome to take photos after the ceremony to capture this special day.

Other Considerations

Anointing may be received in hospital, at home, in a care setting, or anywhere the person feels comfortable.

It is offered to those with serious illness, those preparing for major surgery, anyone who is becoming frail, and those nearing the end of life.
