Baptism

Baptism is the first step on a lifelong journey of faith — a moment of joy and welcome into our parish family. At St Kessog’s and St Anthony’s, we’re delighted to share this special occasion with you and your child.

Arranging a Baptism

If you’d like to have your child baptised, please contact the parish office to arrange a date. Baptisms usually take place during or after the Sunday Mass, though other times can be arranged if needed.

Parents are invited to meet with our priest to talk about the meaning of baptism and to prepare for the celebration. Godparents are also welcome to take part in this meeting.

The Celebration

The baptism ceremony is a beautiful and joyful occasion — a moment to gather with family, friends, and the wider parish community.

  • The child is anointed with holy oil, blessed with water, and welcomed as a new member of the Church.

  • Parents and godparents make a promise to guide the child in faith.

  • A white garment and candle are given as symbols of new life and light.

You’re welcome to take photos after the ceremony to capture this special day.

Other Considerations

Other Considerations

Godparents: Each child should have at least one practising Catholic godparent. Others may stand as Christian witnesses.

Donation: There is no charge for baptism. If you wish, a small donation towards church upkeep is always appreciated.

Adult Baptism: If you are an adult exploring the Catholic faith and wish to be baptised, please contact the parish office — Father John will be happy to guide you through the process.
